Whilst HMS Iron Duke was a modern battleship in her time (launched in 1912), conditions aboard were not comfortable. "In bad weather the water, as deep as three to four inches, was constantly below through open hatches, to the great discomfort of the ship’s company, who were continually wet, and to the detriment of efficiency." -
