Gladys Mahala Tuckey's mother (Harriet Culley, nee Pool) showed on census returns that she herself was born at Farrington, Somerset. By chance I came across details of a "Mahala Pool" born in 1849 at Clutton, Somerset. Clutton is just 2 miles north of Farrington Gurney. Further work showed that Mahala Pool (nee Gregory) was Harriet Culley's mother.
