Ann Morgan, who has done all of the research of these past generations of Tuckey's was told by her grandmother that John Tuckey was a carpenter, as were several of his sons. Ann's grandmother said they did work for Rugby School.
It is worth noting that Archattan Priory, on the west coast of Scotland, was, at this time owned by the Campbell family (or Mary Popham - whose maiden name was Campbell. I have read that another Campbell family, who lived fairly near at that time, had their sons educated at Rugby School and the father bought a house in Rugby so he could influence their education. Perhaps it was through this link that John's son Charles Alfred Tuckey was to gain employment as a butler at Archattan Priory.
1881 census shows John as a widower ? journeyman carpenter
