John Fillingham Lister followed his brother to London and is shown on the 1881 census as a pianoforte salesman. His brother William Henry was a Pianoforte dealer with two shops - one in Maida Vale. Megan Tuckey (nee Davies b 1920) thought John had always wanted to be made a partner in his brother's business but this was not to be. The business was passed to Henry's sons.
In the 1901 census, John Filingham (sic) Lister aged 46 (also born Glossop) is shown as married to Minnie and living with her and her mother at the Angel & Harp Inn, Church End, Dunmow, Essex. John was shown as the Licensed Victualler at this address. John was certainly still there in 1906.
